Freeze Warning 10 pm Sunday to 9 am Monday

By News Oct 18, 2020 | 3:37 PM

…FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 9 AM CDT MONDAY…

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 are expected in the following Counties: Butler, Seward, Lancaster, Saline, Jefferson and Gage Counties.

Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

There is a chance for light snow late tonight into Monday morning over portions of northeast Nebraska into west-central Iowa. Little to no accumulation is expected.

Temperatures near or below freezing are anticipated for much of eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa tonight.  Several hours of near or just below freezing will harm any remaining susceptible vegetation. .

Monday night through Sunday Thunderstorm chances return to the forecast from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday night. A strong storm or two appears possible on Thursday afternoon or evening.
