New Twitter Feature Blocks Jerks

By Austin Michael Sep 2, 2021 | 8:03 PM

Twitter has launched a new feature that helps block and remove abusive content. For instance, if you tweet something and then dozens of other people decide that they want to argue with you and make a bunch of harsh, profanity laced, crazy replies, then this is supposed to filter them out. The new feature is called “Safety Mode”.

The way Twitter puts it is, “We want you to enjoy healthy conversations, so this test is one way we’re limiting overwhelming and unwelcome interactions that can interrupt those conversations.”

The way this will work is that when “Safety Mode” is on, the Twitter system will analyze the content of every Tweet and look at the relationship between the parties interacting. It’ll look for specific phrases and words and then decide what to do after considering if people are friends. If Twitter’s automated system finds an account to have repeated, harmful engagement with the user, it will block the account for seven days from following the user’s account, viewing their tweets or sending them direct messages.

I know they started testing it yesterday, but I don’t know when everyone will be able to use it. I checked my account this afternoon and didn’t see an option to set it up.
