Dollar Tree has held out for a long time, but it looks like they’ll be moving to a business model where some of their stuff is going to cost more than a buck.
I remember when Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and there were a few others……. They all sold everything for a dollar or less. Then the other stores started raising prices and Dollar General shot up to the ten and twenty dollar range. I think they go higher now, but I haven’t been in one for years.
I thought Dollar Tree would always be the one to stay at the price point. But the rising price of everything is forcing them to make plans to charge more in the near future.
I don’t think we have this in Lincoln stores, but Dollar Tree had already been testing a new section in certain stores called “Dollar Tree Plus” where items cost more.
I get a lot of holiday and birthday cards at the Dollar Tree. Name brand cards cost anywhere from $5 to $16 everywhere else. No one I know keeps cards around. I’ve also been getting special occasion balloons at Dollar Tree for years. They stay floating for months!
