Between 60 and 70-thousand hunters are expected to be in Nebraska this weekend for the beginning of the firearm deer hunting season.  Greg Wagner with Nebraska Game and Parks tells KLIN News the nine day season brings will pump millions of dollars into the economy, which will benefit every part of the state, including Lincoln and Omaha.

“These deer hunters are buying food, lodging, gas, equipment and other things,” says Greg Wagner with Nebraska game and Parks.  There money is turning over in the community dozens of times.”

Wagner says the outlook for the deer hunting season, the state’s largest hunt, is fair to good and says deer will be harvested in all 93 Nebraska counties.  For hunters heading out into the fields this weekend, especially those hunting for the first time,  Wagner has these safety tips:

“Don’t forget you blaze orange cap and vest, treat every gun as if it was loaded, watch the muzzle, the tip of the barrell, control that at all times and make sure of your target and what’s beyond it.”
