Get to know me, Bic with a B!

By Bic Dec 10, 2021 | 1:21 PM

Hello, Lincoln!  It’s Bic from “Brooke & Bic Mornings” on B 107.3.  Allow me to introduce myself to you with these seven fun facts . . . in no particular order.

Let’s go!

  1. Kelly Clarkson.  I’m not afraid to share my love for the O-G American Idol.  Sorry Justin, but I did dial 1-866-IDOLS-02 and voted for KC (from a landline that reached my bathroom of all places – LOL).  I’ve met Kelly twice in person, seen her 12 times on tour, she sang my cover request of Paramore’s “The Only Exception” (go here for the intro, go here for the best quality), I’ve won tickets on the radio (before working in radio), and thanks to a couple of friends I know in radio – when they interviewed her recently – Kelly recorded a hilarious, personal greeting.  Pretty badass, right?!  I promise I’m not crazy – just a passionate fan.
  2. Concert Meet-N-Greets.  Other than Kelly, I’ve had the opportunity to hang with other incredible country artists like: Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, and Rascal Flatts.  Some of my favorites include: Keith Urban, The Band Perry, Jake Owen, Thomas Rhett, Ryan Hurd and Maren Morris.  Of those listed, hangin’ with Jake Owen was an experience unlike any other.  I got to sample some of Jake’s whiskey (Beach Whiskey), I accidentally crashed his music video he filmed on site (“Seafoam Green” – you’ll see me at the very end), and I got to sign the inside of his Volkswagen bus!  For his concert that evening – I randomly discovered a front row pit pass on the ground (all by itself)!!  I stuck around that area hoping to find the owner, but no dice.  What an amazing day and show.
  3. Celebrity Interviews. With my previous national fraternity gig, and radio career, I’ve had the chance to interview and spotlight some super cool humans.  And one of those super cool humans was . . . Eric Maddox.  The name may not sound familiar, but his story should ring some bells as he’s the man responsible in capturing Saddam Hussein (!!!).  That interview (chat really) will forever be a memorable moment.  I still get goosebumps thinking about his story and our brief chat, which our chat was mostly about his fraternity experience and how it prepared him for life after college.  Just incredible.  Other ‘holy-crap-I’m-talking-to-you’ celebrity interviews/chats I’ve had include: Papa John (before the controversy), Dustin Diamond (rest in peace Screech), and Afroman (no – I didn’t get high).  Now someone I didn’t interview, but randomly met, was Pilot Pete from The Bachelor.  Our brief hang was completely by accident as my previous roomie and I (who he’s friends with!) drunkenly ran into Pete at the The Railyard after one of the Ohio State football losses – so random.
  4. Top 3 in Singing Competition.  After I graduated high school, I traveled with a group of friends to Minneapolis, MN.  And visiting the Mall of America was on our travel to-do list.  When we arrived at the mall, Teen People magazine (remember them?) was conducting a couple competitions – one for singing and the other, if memory serves me the right, was dancing?  Anyways, being a guy who was in one acts and show choir, performing in front of strangers was an adrenalin rush.  It didn’t scare me.  So with that confidence, I signed up for the singing competition where I sang – you guessed it – a Kelly Clarkson song (“Since U Been Gone”).  The front row girls loved it (and jumped with me)!  After performing, my friend group was eager to go and adventure the rest of the mall.  Little did they know, I took the singing moment so seriously.  So after some convincing, we agreed to come back after the competition wrapped for the Top 3 reveal.  And no joke, after hundreds auditioned, I made the top 3!!!  But here’s the thing, we were scheduled to leave for Nebraska the next day, and no way was that going to happen as the three finalists were asked to return the next day to compete again, except this time sing the whole song (during the audition we only sang a short portion of the song).  It should be noted that the grand prize winner – again if memory serves me right – was going to receive a trip to New York City to meet some record producers?  At any rate, long story short, we came back to the mall the next day and I didn’t win.  But I’m pretty sure I finished in second place.  Regardless, it was so much fun.  Shout out to the local Minneapolis record label for handing me their business card!
  5. I Can’t Sing.  Despite my Mall of America moment with Teen People magazine, and making the Top 3, I can’t sing.  As much as I would like to be considered a great singer, it’s in everyone’s best interest that I save the singing for karaoke or in my car.  It took me a minute to figure that out.
  6. Fractured Collarbone.  Have you fractured your left clavicle twice in the same spot (multiple years apart)?  No?  I have!! OUCH.  The first time occurred after a go-kart accident on my dad’s land.  The driver (neighbor girl) made a hard turn and one of the front tires sank/got stuck causing the go-kart to flip.  I flew from the vehicle and landed awkwardly on my head/shoulder.  Thank God we were wearing helmets.  It wasn’t that incident, but several days later it was when I jumped off a bunk bed and landed on the floor with all my weight on my left clavicle.  That’s when I fractured my collarbone the first time.  The second (hopefully last) time I fractured my left clavicle was 10-14 years later after an embarrassing track accident.  This is what happened.  I was sprinting, lost control of my upper body, and crashed onto the asphalt in front of a lot of people.  When I lost control of myself, I avoided eating the track with my face by landing on the back of my left shoulder.  It happened so fast.  I was so embarrassed.  But, the most embarrassing part wasn’t the crash itself, it was me telling the story to the guys who I just moved in with (and didn’t know) that I needed to go to the hospital.  You see, I was the new intern and my internship hadn’t even started yet.
  7. Other Fun Fact Quickies.  I’ve skydived once (Phoenix) . . . I’ve traveled once out of the states to Mazatlán, Mexico (spring break at 20) . . . I’ve never been in love (yet) . . . You couldn’t pay me to eat butter or mayonnaise (dry toast all the way) . . . and I saw the movie Titanic 13 times at the theaters.
