I always go back and forth on whether or not I should commit to a New Year resolution each year. Mostly because I give up after a few weeks in. Can you relate?
One year I made a resolution to brush my teeth three times per day. The whole idea was to brush after lunch. It went well at first, then I got complacent and told myself that I would brush before bed (and after waking up). Another failed resolution was committing to ‘lose weight’ and ‘go to the gym more’. I committed to four solid months, but the habit eventually faded.
Fast forward to this year. I legit think I have the perfect resolution for myself – and the best part – I didn’t overthink the idea! PS BTW I’m the worst when it comes to overthinking.
My resolution for 2022 . . . DRUM ROLL . . . is to NOT commit to empty promises.
For the longest time, I’ve made a habit of saying: “I’m going to visit you before I head out of town,” or “I want to pay-it-forward and buy you a coffee”. Those examples may seem pretty harmless, but I’ve gotten into the habit of saying statements like that – things I want to do – but as time passes those promises don’t come to fruition. As of late, I recently told someone that I was going to swing by during the holidays, aaand I failed to fulfill the promise. Face-palm.
Ugh. I feel so guilty (as I should) and I hate it!!
Sooo, moving forward, I’m going to do my absolute best to change the narrative. And be a better person.
Cheers to healthier habits and to a happy new year!
