Nebraska isn’t the most fitness obsessed state, but we are in the top 20. In fact, we’re number fifteen according to a study done by BarBend. It’s a company that took info and rankings from the CDC, Exercise.com, and County Health Ratings. BarBend put everything on a ten point scale and ranked each state. Minnesota came in 1st place. They have a gym for every 10,000 people. That’s on top of 1 and a half health clubs for every 10k. Colorado is 2nd because of all the outdoor opportunities and only 17% not doing any physical activity. Nebraska came in 15th place. Way down at the bottom is West Virginia. Only 59% of the state has fitness opportunities available.
I think BarBend might be leaning too heavily on available fitness clubs as fitness opportunities. There are a lot of back wood trails that people in West Virginia can take advantage of and probably meet a Bigfoot while they’re doing it. There’s lots of wood that can be chopped. That will work your arms and lats real hard, real fast.
