Lincoln Gas Prices Up 36 Cents In Past Week

By Tom Stanton Mar 7, 2022 | 1:20 PM

The price at the gas pump continues it’s rapid rise across the state.  “In Lincoln we are currently at $3.80 cents a gallon,” says Gene LaDoucer with AAA Nebraska.  “That’s up about 36 cents in the past week and nearly a dollar higher than this time last year.”

LaDoucer says gas prices are expected to continue climbing and Lincoln could see record prices in the coming days.  “The record price for Lincoln was set back in July of 2008 at $4.16.”   The statewide average is $3.73.   He says the price spikes come in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.  He also says demand for gas is up.  “We were seeing higher prices leading up to the conflict.  Because of strong demand as we recover from the pandemic and with people starting to travel more,  we’re seeing gas demand continue to increase even at these high prices,” LaDoucer says.

He says Nebraskans will likely find ways to cut back on everyday expenses to pay for the increase in gas.
