A CBS TV station in Minnesota was going through their old video footage when they discovered a clip that has Prince on it. Not singing or putting on a show. Rather, Prince at 11 years old being asked about a teacher’s strike. The video is from more than 50 years ago, 1970.
Even at 10 years old, you can TOTALLY tell it’s Prince. He does this thing while he’s talking where her turns his head to the side and his mouth twists a certain way and his eye looks a certain way that he did as an adult all the time. It’s surreal listening to him and seeing him in regular clothes and not some flamboyant outfit with giant heels. This is the kid who would put out Purple Rain 14 years later.
After the found the clip, they also uncovered Prince’s childhood nickname, Skipper. The station tracked down one of Prince’s old childhood friends and had him watch the clip to confirm it’s Prince and the guy immediately said yep, that’s Skipper.
