Lincoln Electric System has some advice on how to save energy and lower your electric bill during the hot days ahead. Marc Shkolnick is manager of energy services and says make sure you check your thermostat setting.
“Setting it to a level of comfort, but the lower you turn the thermostat down the more your air conditioner will run. You can turn on a ceiling fan and maybe turn the thermostat up a little bit,” Shkolnick says. He says only use the ceiling fans when you are home.
He says make sure you change your furnace filter regularly and check to make sure the outside unit is free of debris. Closing window shades and drapes during the hottest hours of the day can also save money.
Shkolnick also recommends not using the stove or oven between 3 and 7 p.m.
