Apparently the Eiffel Tower is in awful shape. France wanted to get it back in shape before the 2024 Olympics which, but they aren’t going to make it. The problem is that that old thing is full of rust. It was supposed to get a new paint job over the past couple years, but Covid hit. The goal at this point was to be 30% stripped and painted, but it’s only at 5%. This will be the 20th time the tower has been painted since being put up. And, this time it will cost round $70 million to paint. And even though it’s reportedly in bad shape, they aren’t closing it down. They’re reluctant to because it brings in so much money. About 6 million people visit it every year.
Here’s a couple of fun facts about the Eiffel Tower. When it was originally built, they used more than 40 TONS of paint. It took over two years to put together. Also, it’s height changes. When the weather gets cold, it can shrink up to 6 inches.
