You know that scene in Top Gun where Maverick buzzes the tower by flying by really close? And then we’re all like, “That silly Maverick!” In real life, a move like that actually does damage to buildings and people. A new Navy report shows that during a show on January 21st this year, a Blue Angel flew too close and too fast to a building. The sonic boom it created shook walls, rattled furniture, clattered the ceiling and did $180,000 in damage. Windows were broken. Nails actually came out of things. About 12 people were injured. Some with ringing in the ears. Luckily all injuries were minor. There used to be airshows every year when I was growing up. The planes would create sonic booms that would shake out house a bit.
