Before you hit the lake for summer fun, know this………..The brain eating amoebas are getting closer to us. The Iowa Department of Public Health shut down the Lake Of Three Fires because a man who was swimming there got infected with the brain eater. That lake is only about 120 miles to the east of us. The good news is that only 154 people have been identified as being infected since 1962. The bad news is that only 4 of them have survived.
Once they find it in a lake, how do the make the lake clean again? There’s been at least one case where a lake that supplied drinking water to a community had the brain eating amoebas in it. I couldn’t find how they made it safe again. It used to be found mostly in southern states, but experts think climate change is helping it move north.
This is why I prefer swimming in the ocean where it’s safer…… with sharks.
