We got to talking in the hallway yesterday about a couple things we bought years ago, but still haven’t used up. I mentioned a box of straws that I bought at the dollar store over 10 years ago. I still have over 50 left. Then a coworker pointed out that I have a straw in mouth every day and that I’ll probably use them up quick.
I have a straw in my mouth every day because it’s a breathing exercise. I came down with Vocal Cord Dysfunction last year. That’s where the vocal cords don’t like to work how they’re supposed to. Mine tried to stay mostly shut. I couldn’t breathe very well and went through 3 months of specialized therapy to make them work again. I still do the exercises every day, one of which involves me using a straw. That said…….
I asked why would I use them up quick. She said, “Don’t you use a new one every day.” When I told her no, everyone, including Jill, gave me the “that’s gross” face. Why is that gross? It’s a plastic straw that I do breathing exercises with. It’s not like a slurped up a chocolate milk shake then used it to play catch with a dog. I change straws every 2 or 3 weeks. That’s not gross, is it?
