From my camera roll, my trip to Dublin in 30 photos . . .
- “Welcome to Dublin” The Dublin Airport was FULL of billboards promoting the Husker football game.
- “The Sprinting Pedestrian” In America, we have the walking man. In Dublin, he’s sprinting . . . but in real life nobody sprinted
- “The Spire” Also known as the Monument of Light, is 390 feet in height. The pin-like monument (with white light on top) was located near my hotel, The Gresham Dublin. When lost, just walk to The Spire.
- “Poop Eyes” I believe this sign was meant to scare you from not picking up after your dog??
- “Lays But Not” A potato chip flavor in Ireland. I really liked ’em! Boyfriend, did not.
- “Favorite Place To Eat” Lincoln has The Mill, Dublin has The Old Mill. Ate here twice – the food and service was incredible!
- “Cottage Pie” We call it Shepherd’s Pie. This was my favorite meal at The Old Mill. The description on the menu: “Home cooked cottage pie topped with creamy mashed potato, minced ground beef in a rich gravy. 100% Irish Beef.” Five stars!
- “First Guinness” I didn’t like Guinness until Ireland. Why? My guess is we aren’t pouring it right in the states? Guinness in Dublin had a creamier taste. And it was great.
- “The Dublin Castle” On top of our tour list, visit a castle.
- “The Dublin Castle” Fascinating history.
- “The Dublin Castle” An idea of how large the castle is in size.
- “The Dublin Castle” The original *medieval* castle.
- “The Dublin Castle” Yup. A throne. A real-life throne. The last monarch to use it before Irish independence was King George V, in 1911.
- “The Dublin Castle” He looks familiar… does he not, my precious?! Lol.
- “The Dublin Castle” THAT’S ON THE CEILING in St Patrick’s Hall. There’s a total of three.
- “BIG RED Pep Rally” 5,000 + or – fans showed up for the pep rally. This is my view from about the 3rd row up front. You could hear the GBR chants echo from the surrounding buildings. That loud.
- “BIG RED Pep Rally” On the other side of lens.
- “BIG RED Pep Rally” Frost and the team addressing the crowd.
- “Buskers Before The Storm” One of the official pubs for the Huskers. This was the calm before the storm.
- “Lost, Near Aviva Stadium” Got lost in a small neighborhood next to the stadium. The VERY nice locals helped navigate us to the stadium.
- “N is for Novice Driver” Ireland has A TON of Husker fans. Okay, that’s not true. You have to have this “N” in your vehicle for two years after receiving your first full drivers license.
- “A Northwestern Tradition” When I lived in Indiana, we tailgated for the Huskers with the Hoosiers For Huskers alumni/fan group. When I moved back to Nebraska, our paths would cross in Evanston. This time in Dublin. Love you M’Chellin!
- “Game Day Locals” It was too easy to befriend the locals. So nice and accommodating. I ran into these two gentlemen who were excited to cheer for the Huskers.
- “Bullhead?” On the walk to the stadium on game day, I captured this moment. I’m familiar with Sexy Rexy ( former player Rex Burkhead No. 22) but Bullhead is a new one for me.
- “Game Day At Aviva” Entering the stadium on a PERFECT weather day.
- “The View At Aviva” Panorama shot from my seat.
- “Look At That Red” We sat on the Northwestern side. This was our view before the game started.
- “FREE BEER” Game day staff near my section. Due to a technical issue, the beers were FREE. Husker fans who had money (obviously not cards) tipped and tipped during the malfunction.
- “Captain And Coke In A Can” It was okay.
- “The Big Ten Commish” In front of me at security in the Dublin Airport . . . Mr. Kevin Warren – the Big Ten Conference Commissioner. I didn’t want to “be that guy” and ask for a photo in front of everyone. So, I took a quick pic instead. He was kind, and thanked me (and the Husker fans) for flying over.
I was blown away by Dublin.
Some things that impressed me with the locals and the city of Dublin:
- FRIENDLY
- The public transportation
- Tap-and-go to pay
- The locals have a thing for donuts
- Everyone smelled good – weird to write and say, but true and noticeable
