Now that the cold weather has started to settle in Lincoln Police say the number of stolen vehicle reports is on the rise.  Captain Todd Kocian says around 7:15 Tuesday morning officers were sent to a home near 12th and Pawnee where a man reported his red 2006 GMC Envoy had been stolen.

“He started the vehicle to let it warm up, went back inside his residence and when he came back out it was gone,” Kocian says.  The following day around 11:45 a.m. the SUV was spotted near Park Blvd and Van Dorn and officers attempted a traffic stop.

“The vehicle did not stop, and officers very briefly pursued the vehicle, which was last seen near Highway 77 and West Van Dorn,” Kocian says. “About 15 minutes later an LSO Deputy located the vehicle in the parking lot of 1720 Cushman Drive.”

Officers made contact with 27-year-old Gabriel Kuhfahl in the vehicle and after a brief struggle he was taken into custody.  Kuhfahl was booked for  fleeing to avoid arrest, resisting arrest-2nd Offense and theft by receiving stolen property.
