It’s being reported that British scientists have develop a “smart” patch that will be able to determine if you have Alzheimer’s in 6 minutes of wearing it. It has microneedles that can detect biomarkers. They break the skin, but don’t cause bleeding. In fact, it doesn’t interact with blood at all. They say it’ll be able to check for Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases by looking for proinflammatory biomarkers that are related to the diseases. And not just neurological issues. They plan on using this type of device to determine if people have cancer, heart problems, and an array of other issues.
Wouldn’t that be nice? It took multiple doctors and second opinions a year of sticking needles in my muscles, 5 MRIs, visits to 5 different hospitals, a LOT of blood tests, and tens of thousands of dollars to rule out ALS, MS, Parkinson’s, Stiff Person Disease, and other problems before making a neurological diagnosis. I’ll be surprised if a patch and 6 minutes will be able to override all of that for patients. But I hope it does.
