I’ve talked to a lot of business owners in Lincoln and a lot tell me one of the hardest things right now is getting good employees. I hear it most in the restaurant industry. I wonder if any of them would consider buying robots as servers. Places in cities as big as Houston and as small as Madison Heights, Wisconsin are doing it.
The Dean of the Hilton College Of Hospitality Leadership in Houston says that he has no doubt that robots is where the world is going. A company in California that makes them for restaurants says they expect to have 10,000 out in the work force by the end of this year in 44 states. A Chinese company has put over 50,000 out around the world.
I don’t think anyone in Lincoln has robots taking orders and serving. But I bet once someone does, they get a boost in customers for a bit just from the novelty of it. Personally, I prefer humans. I mean, robots can’t smile or help you push two tables together for a party. Although, there are bars in Tokyo where you can get served by a monkey. I might like to see more of that.
