DVDs are officially dead. Netflix is shutting down their DVD delivery service. It’s what they started with, but now streaming has killed the DVD star. I remember being excited when I’d see that red envelope in the mail. I had the two movies at once service and I always had a bunch in que in case the popular ones were hard to get. And the new ones were pretty hard to the first month sometimes. So, it was a guessing game as to what was in the envelope. Was it going to be “Pirates Of The Caribbean” or something not quite as popular like “Xanadu”. Then, I’d watch it and throw it back in the mail the same day so it’d speed up the process of the next DVD showing up. The thrill ride started again!
The very first DVD they sent out was “Beetlejuice”. Over the years, they’ve mailed 5.2 billion DVDs. The last day they’ll ship will be September 29.
