There have been nationwide theft issues with some Hyundai and Kia vehicles connected to social media challenges. In response the Lincoln Police Department is offering a limited number of free steering wheel locks.
The locks are limited and available on a first-come first-served basis to Lincoln residents only. A valid vehicle registration is needed for proof of ownership.
The steering wheel locks are available at three LPD stations.
- 5201 R Street
- 1501 North 27th Street
- 6601 Pine Lake Road
LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says if you can’t get one of the free locks they are available at most auto parts stores or can be purchased online.
“Lincoln Police remind everyone to take precautions when parking your vehicle outdoors, including keeping it locked, using appropriate safety devices and not storing personal belongings or valuables in your vehicle.”
