Beer shortage. Drink ’em while the world’s got ’em.

By Austin Michael Oct 16, 2023 | 6:55 PM

Looks like a beer shortage is on the way. Thanks again climate change. Recent research points to a decline of hops harvests in Europe by 2050. Hops, of course, is one of the main ingredients in beer. Which means it’s worse than we thought because that means less thick stouts and porters from Germany, Scotland, and Ireland. You know, real beer.

Also, not only will there be less hops, the hops that are grown will have less acid in them. It’s that acid that makes beer taste better.

Don’t freak out quite yet. Americans have cross bred and GMO’ed breeds of hops that are tougher and have increased in production. It’s good old fashioned American ingenuity! Although, there was also mention of possible barley shortages. One day, we may have to choose between vegetable barley soup and beer……… A truly scary thought.

Beer is the 3rd most consumed beverage in the world after water and tea.
