Google released it’s 2023 list of most searched for items broken down by categories. You could also break it down by countries or as the whole world. I started big, listing top trends for the whole world and quickly discovered that the United States has very little influence on that scale. For instance, almost every recipe in the top 5 are Asian or Latin. The number one being Bibimbap, a Korean dish. It looks delicious, by the way.
So, I switched to just the United States. The number one searched for recipe is Grimace Shake……… as in McDonald’s. In fact, 4 of the top 5 are desserts. In the category for Top 5 memes to be looked up has Kevin James at number 1 as in Paul Blart, mall cop. It was extremely popular in South Dakota with it 2nd most popular in……… Nebraska.
The Israel and Gaza war is has been the top trending news item for 2023 on Google. Damar Hamlin was the most searched sports figure with Travis Kelce in 3rd place.
And, as far as enhancing our knowledge, the number one thing that people looked up to be explained was the plot to the movie “The Menu”. The top 4 were all movies. Number 5 is the Israel Palestine conflict.
