You know, I accidentally spilled soda on a sound board at a station I worked at 20 years ago. It fried some circuits and cost a couple thousand to fix. I’ve always felt bad about that. But I will never feel as bad as Julie Bundock, a real estate agent in Australia who broke something she worked with…….. a $2 million house. Broke is the wrong word. Burned down is a better description.
It wasn’t on purpose. She was getting the house ready to show, saw some blankets on the deck. The current renters had left them there to dry. So Julie put them on some metal shelving under the stairs, but left the light on above the shelf.
It must have been a really high wattage bulb because the heat from the light caught the bedding on fire. Then the rest of the house burned to the ground.
The real estate company has been ordered to pay around half a million in damages.
