Sad day in Hollywood as Louis Gossett Junior has passed away. I mentioned it to one of my co-workers and she ask, “Who?”
Sigh, She’s 31 years old.
So I exclaimed, “First black man to win a supporting Oscar award? Nope. An Officer and a Gentleman! No? Enemy mine! Still nothing? Surely you’re familiar with Iron Eagle!” She had no clue. I played the trailer for Iron Eagle for her. She said, “This looks really bad.” And she’s right. So are all the sequels. But Louis G was not a bad actor. His hey day was mostly the 70s and 80s with iconic roles like his part in the TV mini series “Roots”. He remained a familiar face on TV, theaters, and straight to DVD constantly from the 90s through today. His last movie appearance was less than a year ago on “The Color Purple”.
