Team USA unveiled their uniforms for the Olympics next month. When I first saw the pictures, I didn’t know who had designed them, but I immediately said, “These look like they came straight out of a Polo commercial in 1985.” And guess what………. They pretty much are. Ralph Lauren deigned them. We’re talking Navy blazers over distressed jeans.
They make me think of snooty high school kids with feathered, blond hair…… kind of like James Spader in “Pretty In Pink”.
Actually, the uniforms remind me of shopping in The Plaza in Kansas City. Sweaters in every shop start at $80. Probably more now. I haven’t been to The Plaza in over 20 years and that was an actual sweater price when I was there.
There are also rectangular, knit ties. I had one of those when I was 14!
I’m going to keep an eye out for stop watches made by Swatch. Maybe we can get Flock of Seagulls and Boy George to sing the National Anthem.
