If you have regrets over signing a petition seeking to get a variety of issues on the November ballot, Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen says you can get your signature removed.
“Nebraska law does permit voters to remove their name from a petition by submitting an affidavit to an election official, but that has to be done before the petitions are filed,” Wiltgen says. The deadline for petitions to be filed with the state is July 3.
Wiltgen tells KLIN News they have received six affidavits from voters requesting to have their name removed and have fielded a handful of calls and emails with questions about the removal process and timeframe.
He says voters can complete the affidavit at the Election Commissioner’s Office at 601 North 46th Street from 8 a.m. to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. The affidavit can also be downloaded from the Election Commissioner’s website at https://www.lancaster.ne.gov/314/Election-Commissioner.
The original affidavit must be signed and sworn to before the election commissioner or a notary public, mailed or hand-delivered to the Election Commission’s Office and be received before the petition is filed for verification.
