Remember that scene in the Batman movie “The Dark Knight Returns” where there’s a football game and then underground explosions open up giant holes all over the place?
Yesterday, a giant sink hole opened up on a soccer field in Illinois that could have been straight out of the movie. There’s video that shows the hole quickly opening up in almost a perfect circle around one of those light poles you see on sports fields. Then the pole just completely sinks down into the hole. All gone.
A hole 100 feet wide and 30 feet deep ate up everything above it in about 15 seconds. Luckily no one was playing on the field at the time. Also, we’re lucky it wasn’t created by a super villain. Instead, it was a collapsed mine from New Frontier Materials who own the mine.
So now I’m wondering if they were mining under the city, specifically underneath where children play. And if so, what in thee world. Those aren’t exactly the words I wanted to use, but you get the idea.
