Cornhusker State Games Athletes Battle Extreme Heat

Organizers of the Cornhusker State Games says it’s it’s typical that the hottest day of the year coincides with the largest day of competition.  Dave Mlnarik  is President of Nebraska Sports Council and tells KLIN News that was the case last Saturday.

“We had no cases of heat stroke or heat exhaustion.  We treated some folks for being overheated, but nothing dangerous.”  Mlnarik says all of the games went off without a hitch.  The second and final weekend of competition is coming up and Mlnarik tells KLIN News they are now concerned about rain.  “We’re looking at Saturday and our team already has everything pretty much wired as to if this happens, here’s what were going to do.”

The 7,800 athletes will be competing in more than 35 sports this weekend at venues in Lincoln, Omaha, Columbus, Fremont, Grand Island and North Platte.  2024 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Cornhusker State Games.
