Earth is getting a new friend to play with. Experts say that an asteroid called 2024 PT5 is going to fall into orbit around Earth around the 29th this month. Then it’s hang out for a couple of months before shooting off towards an asteroid belt again.
Space rocks and our own space junk have done this before. Events like this are called “Mini Moons”. However 2024 PT5, or Stubby as I like to call it, will be bright enough that you’ll be able to see it with a telescope.
By the way, I call it Stubby because it’s only 33 feet in diameter which is about the size of an Orca.
Scientists only discovered Stubby last month. So, I hope their calculators had fresh batteries when they were making the calculations.
Random thought………. What if Stubby hits that car Elon Musk put in orbit causing the asteroid to change course and hit Earth. How much of his money would be left cleaning that mess up? Who am I kidding. He’d probably send a ship up to get the car so he could repair the damage.
