Have you ever checked your hotel bill to see how much you got charged just for electricity? No, because it’s a ridiculous idea. You expect it to be built into the cost of the stay.
Except at the Holiday Inn and Express Suites in Elko, Nevada. They’ve been adding an extra $12.95 fee to everyone’s bill. It’s listed as the “ERF” fee on the bill. E…R…F… which stands for Electric Recovery Fee.
They also charge a 3% fee if you pay using a credit card. I kind of get that because there are processing fees, but it’s not a standard practice at hotels. The article I read says that a hotel employee was reached, but wouldn’t comment and that it’s unknown why there’s and electricity fee.
Because it’s a sneaky way to bill more. It’s sneaky because they don’t show the fee included with room rates, when you look online or look some other way. They learned from airlines that you can add fees like this on bills and most people don’t question it. But they shouldn’t list it as an “ERF” fee. That sounds like a Muppet name or a noise you’d make when hit with a pillow. Either way, it’s underhanded and they know it.
