Murder Hornets Eradicated!

We can all breathe a sigh of relief. Murder hornets in America have been wiped out.  US agriculture officials released a statement saying that the 4 inch long critters with long stingers and potent poison have been eradicated. Hornet hunters captured some of the insects and put little tracking radios on them. Then it was just a matter of following them back to the nest. Then, after finding a nest in a tree, a team plugged the nest with foam, wrapped the tree in plastic and vacuumed out the hornets. They also injected carbon dioxide into the tree to kill any remaining hornets.

Actually, I’m kind of surprised. Typically when an invasive species hits America, they’re impossible to completely get rid of. Think, boa constrictors in Florida. There are snakes down there now that are eating alligators.

Fortunately, the murder hornets weren’t allowed to get that far along. Could you imagine going out for a walk with a pet and all of a sudden, a 5 foot long murder hornet busts out of a sewer in front of you. I mean, literally blows open the metal lid, looks around, sees you, and then zooms right at you wanting to fly off with you or your dog. Actually, that might make a good movie for Ian Ziering to star in.

Scientists do warn that murder hornets could come back. They just need to hitch a ride on anything we import from Asia.
