Is it okay to open presents before Christmas day? I mean, besides the times you have to schedule early to be able to get together.
We had a discussion about this, here in the building, Tuesday. I had mentioned that whenever the young nieces and nephews are visiting, my father likes to let them all open 1 present the night before. I completely disagree. If there is a specifically set time or date or deadline, you don’t partially do whatever it’s for early because people are impatient.
The people here that think it should be allowed didn’t offer any persuasive arguments. It pretty much boiled down to, “It’s fun.”
Is it? Here’s the other reason I don’t like people opening “just one” present the night before Christmas; 50% of the time, one of the little kids opens something he thinks is going to be the best present ever, and it turns out to be that sweater grandma made. Then that little kid throws a fit because he has to watch the other little kids play with their new toys and he doesn’t.
I mean, I could also go into the whole thing about spoiling kids and teaching them that they can have anything they want when they want, etc, etc, but what it comes down to is a crying kid who may or may not have grabbed his brother’s to truck and hit him with it. I’m just saying.
Present the night before or not; what do you think? Chime in at the B107.3 Facebook page.
