Again led by standout freshman Britt Prince, Nebraska women’s basketball overcame an 11-point deficit with six minutes to go in regulation to defeat Iowa in overtime in Iowa City, 87-84. The freshman star stepped up with 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and six steals to pace the Huskers (14-4, 5-2 B1G) as Alexis Markowski was limited to 30 minutes due to foul trouble. The senior post from Lincoln was efficient when she was out there, tallying 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting before fouling out.

Logan Nissley drained three three-pointers en route to 13 points while Jessica Petrie added 13 more points. Amiah Hargrove turned in her best game of her brief Husker career with her first career double-double, 10 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

Hannah Steulke paced the Iowa (12-6, 2-5 B1G) effort with 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting while snagging 16 rebounds. Aaliyah Guyton and Lucy Olsen added 14 points each, while Kylie Feuerbach scored 13 points and Sydney Affolter and Addison O’Grady both turned in 10 points.

Nebraska opened a 7-point lead in the first quarter and held a 10-point advantage early in the second quarter, 31-21. But Markowski fell into foul trouble and the Hawkeyes chipped into the Huskers’ lead, thinning it to just one point, 38-37, at halftime. Iowa’s momentum continued through the third quarter, as the Hawkeyes led 56-51 with 10 minutes to go in regulation. The lead grew to 11 with 6:05 to go. But Nebraska turned it on late, hitting 10 field goals in a row starting with 6:48 remaining to climb back into the game. Two free throws by Prince tied the game at 77 at the end of regulation. Nebraska started the extra period strong, outscoring Iowa 8-1 in the first three minutes of overtime, all from the free-throw line, and the Huskers held on from there to victory.

Nebraska now prepares to host Wisconsin Monday at 7 p.m. at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 on KLIN and B-107.3.
