In all the time I’ve been coming up with crazy new recipes and ways to serve up foods, never have I considered making candy that tastes like soup. Chocolate Mac N Cheese, yes. Deep fat fried strawberry cake and frosting, yes. But soup candy? Even I have limits.
But soup company Progresso, they did it. For National Soup month, January, they’ve come up with hard candy that tastes like their Chicken Noodle soup. The slogan is “soup you can suck on”. They describe the flavor profile as, “broth, savory veggies, chicken, soft egg noodles, and a hint of parsley.”
This isn’t exactly unheard of. Willy Wonka was working on a three course dinner gum. The first course was tomato soup.
Progresso is calling theirs “Soup Drops”. They’re only available at progressosoupdrops.com. I was surprised by the price. It’s only $2.50 for a pack of 20. Normally these promotional things cost double the normal price.
I went to the site. It looks like this is another infuriating “limited time” things because it said they were sold out, but to check back tomorrow.
