Caffeine may result in lower BMI and Body Fat

We are all looking to live a healthier lifestyle, perhaps lose weight and improve the quality of our lives. I didn’t expect caffeine to be something positive.

A recent study has found that the levels of caffeine in your blood could influence the amount of body fat you carry, which in turn affects your risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

But in a beneficial way not a negative way.

Conducted by researchers from the Karolinska Institute, the University of Bristol, and Imperial College London, the study used genetic markers to establish a link between caffeine levels, BMI, and diabetes risk.

They discovered that higher genetically predicted caffeine concentrations were associated with lower BMI and body fat, and a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes.

The researchers suggest that calorie-free caffeinated drinks might help reduce body fat levels.

However, no significant link was found between caffeine levels and cardiovascular diseases. The study highlights the potential benefits of caffeine on metabolism but also calls for more research to confirm these findings.

I myself have found that since I switched from daily 20 oz. bottles of Moutain Dew (290 calories) to 16 oz. cans of Mountain Dew Kickstart Fruit Punch (80 calories), I haven’t put on weight in the same way I used to.

I had mostly attributed this to being more active and getting out of the sedentary office life, but less calories and the same caffeine may be helping me out as well.
