Sling TV vs. Youtube TV

By Adam Winegarden Feb 25, 2025 | 11:31 AM

We have so many options for entertainment. For years I have been a YoutubeTV subscriber. At first it felt like a cheaper alternative to regular cable or satellite. However, over the years like any streaming service, the price has steadily increased. I’ve been considering my options and found an article that I found very useful, Sling TV vs. YouTube TV: Which Streaming Service Offers the Best Value for Cord Cutters?

Here are some of the key takeaways from the article:

Overall Findings

  • YouTube TV: Offers over 100 live channels, unlimited DVR recording space, and is available on a wide range of devices. However, it lacks regional sports availability.
  • Sling TV: Provides a customizable channel lineup with plans including 35 to 46 channels, 50 hours of free DVR storage, and is also compatible with various devices. It does not support local channels.

Platform and App Availability

  • YouTube TV: Available on most modern smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and streaming devices, including video game consoles like PlayStation 4 and 5.
  • Sling TV: Compatible with most modern smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and streaming devices, but slightly more limited compared to YouTube TV.

Live and On-Demand Content

  • YouTube TV: Offers a larger library with over 100 channels, including NFL Sunday Ticket, and allows for premium channel add-ons.
  • Sling TV: Provides 35 to 46 channels depending on the plan, with the option to revisit past broadcasts via on-demand. Local channels require an antenna.

Price Comparison

  • YouTube TV: Costs $83 per month for over 100 channels, unlimited DVR, and three streams. Additional costs for premium channels and 4K support.
  • Sling TV: Starts at $46 per month for the Orange plan (32 channels) and $51 for the Blue plan (42 channels). The Orange + Blue bundle costs $66 per month, with an extra $5 for unlimited DVR.

Final Verdict

While Sling TV offers a more affordable entry point, YouTube TV provides a more comprehensive package with a larger channel selection and unlimited DVR storage.

I use my DVR extensively; with my schedule I almost never get to watch my favorite series or shows when they air. I also like to be able to rewatch live events like the Oscars, Grammys or sporting events.

Because of that, it feels like YoutubeTV is still the current right option for me. What you do you think?
