There are so many streaming services and so many new documentaries, series and movies that it can be easy to lose track of what’s coming up. Here are two soon to be streaming movies that caught my attention.
A Complete Unknown: The Enigmatic Bob Dylan Biopic (HULU)
Available on: Thursday, March 27
If you’re a fan of Bob Dylan or just love a good biopic, “A Complete Unknown” may be down your alley. And if you’re like me you’ve been waiting for a chance to catch it after all the award season buzz.
This film, directed by the talented James Mangold, takes us back to the 1960s when Dylan first hit the New York music scene. Instead of diving deep into his psyche, the movie keeps Dylan as the mysterious figure we all know and love.
You’ll see him rubbing shoulders with legends like Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, and of course, his romantic entanglements with Joan Baez and Sylvie Russo. The highlight? Dylan’s groundbreaking electric guitar performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. It has a star-studded cast including Timothée Chalamet, Edward Norton, and Elle Fanning, so I am cautiously optimistic it will live up to the hype.
Holland: A Midwestern Mystery (Amazon Prime)
Available on: Thursday, March 27
Nicole Kidman seems to be everywhere lately and she’s back with another film that’s creating buzz with another incredible cast.
“Holland” is set in the quaint town of Holland, Michigan. Nicole Kidman star as Nancy Vandergroot, a seemingly perfect schoolteacher with a not-so-perfect life. When Nancy starts suspecting her charming optometrist husband, Fred, of infidelity, she teams up with her co-worker Dave to uncover the truth.
But of course, the plot thickens! What Nancy discovers is far more twisted than she ever imagined.
Directed by Mimi Cave, “Holland” also features Gael García Bernal, Rachel Sennott and one of my personal favorites, Matthew Macfadyen. If you have never seen Macfadyen’s MI5 (Spooks in the UK), it is worth adding to your list.
So, whether you’re in the mood for some musical history or a suspenseful mystery, these films have got you covered. Grab your popcorn and enjoy the show!
