City Begins Pilot Program for Downtown Lincoln Parking Meters

By Chase Porter Mar 26, 2025 | 3:37 PM

The City of Lincoln has initiated a 60-day pilot program that temporarily adjusts curbside use along two blocks of “O” Street.

The 1300 and 1400 blocks of “O” Street have changed from two-hour metered parking to short-term loading zones during key hours. Handicap-accessible spaces will remain unchanged and available at all times. The new schedule is as follows:

  • 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday: 30-minute loading zone
  • 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., Monday through Saturday: 15-minute pick-up/drop-off zone

Urban Development Director Peter Hind says this adjustment is designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and gather data that will help shape improvements to the safety and convenience of curb areas downtown.

“These temporary changes allow us to test new strategies that support people’s experience and convenience downtown,” Hind said. “We’re looking at how we can make downtown more welcoming, more efficient, and more enjoyable for everyone who lives, works, visits, or does business here.”

Hind says handicap-accessible spaces will remain available at all times.
