There’s been talk of Lincoln police coming down harder on bad drivers, possibly with street cameras.
Might I humbly suggest that before we budget for that, we consider approaching the issue the way Montgomery Township in Pennsylvania has? They’ve painted streets with squiggly lines instead of the straight lines and dashes.
They’re tired of dangerous speedsters running rampant. So, yes, the lines on on specific streets look like white snakes making their way to the stop sign. And yes, people are expected to drive within the lines or be penalized.
Not everybody there is happy with it. Social media responses range from, “Looks like you gave creative license to a class of kindergartners” to “just drove past and it felt like we were on a roller coaster”.
The city says that it is not a joke and that it was deemed by the city engineers to be the best solution to the problem.
You know what I’d love to see? For just a couple of hours, I think it’d be hilarious watching people try to figure out what to do with wavy road lines inside a roundabout. I’d set up giant speakers in the middle to play Benny Hill music and have a few other people with me to hold up score signs like at a gymnastics meet.
