Cool new flower glows in dark. No more stubbing your toes in the garden at night.

By Austin Michael Apr 9, 2025 | 7:05 PM

The first ever glow in the dark, living flowers are being sold in Omaha. They’re called Firefly Petunias. They soak up 6 to 8 hours of sun during the day. Then, at night, they emit a soft glow.

And yes, this is the result of mad scientists planning and scheming in their labs, taking parts from various pants and Frankensteining them together.

Also, they are sooooo cool!

The company Light Bio has been working on these for years. From what I understand, they were able to get the bioluminescence genetic traits out of some mushrooms and put them in flowers. Not to be confused with when hippies put mushrooms in their stomachs making everything glow.

The Firefly Petunias cost around $40 per plant. That’s because they’re new and not of lot of them exist yet. Also, they’re annuals that need a lot of water, sun, and plant food.

This is going to be as cool as that glow in the dark tattoo I got on the bottom of my foot!

If you’re as interested as me in getting one, they’re being sold at Mullhalls Garden And Home in Omaha.
