Watch elephants protect their babies during earthquake yesterday.

By Austin Michael Apr 15, 2025 | 6:45 PM

Adult elephants at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park formed a circle to protect younger elephants yesterday. It happened during a medium to strong 5.1 earthquake yesterday and was caught on video.

At the first vibrations, they went into action. As the camera begins to shake, they begin to run around, checking out the perimeter. Then, they all come together around a calf and surround it, heads out to face any danger.

As an animal lover, I found it to be pretty amazing. Also, I’ve met those elephants. Jenny and I spent a couple days at the San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park on our honeymoon. I highly recommend both. And, I actually thought the Safari Park was better than the actual zoo. It’s so big and so many exhibits.
