I saw a meme today that had a picture of a small cup of ice cream and those tiny wooden spoons that are shaped like an hour glass. The text said, “I remember the taste of the wooden spoon more than I do the ice cream.” And boom, just like that, I was 7 years old again, in my grade school cafeteria. Those were desert sometimes; the tiny plastic cup with peel off cellophane, and that nightmare of a spoon. They were never sanded down smooth. So, it was like eating ice cream off plywood…….slowly scraping the length of your tongue. It was a flavor combination of 15% ice cream and 84% drift wood.
Here’s the best part. After decades of suppressing the memory of those timber based utensils, I used one last night. Jenny and I were at a local event where a vendor was giving out sample of their locally made ice cream……. With those spoons. No worries those. It brought back a lot of happy memories from when I was kid. It put such a big smile on my face that I might buy wooden spoons to use at home, no matter how many splinters I get I my tongue.
Oh yeah. I don’t remember the name of that ice cream business, but it was delicious.
