Today on B Mornings with Brooke and Adam, we mentioned that Costco has announced a sweeping recall of multiple products currently on shelves and in homes. This recall includes common household staples, such as air conditioners, power banks, dumbbells, tires, and more. Here’s a breakdown of the recalled items and what you should do if you own any of them.
Air Conditioners: Stop Using Immediately
One of the biggest concerns in this recall is the Danby and Midea U-shaped window air conditioners. These units may not drain water properly, leading to mold growth, which can pose respiratory health risks. If you own one of these air conditioners, stop using it immediately and request a free repair kit or arrange for a technician to repair the unit.
Anker Power Banks: Fire Hazard Risk
Several Anker power banks sold at Costco have been recalled due to overheating, which poses a risk of fire. If you own one of these devices, stop using it right away and contact Anker customer service for instructions on how to return the product and request a replacement or refund.
Dumbbells: Impact Hazard
Costco has also recalled BowFlex 552 adjustable dumbbells due to a defect where the weight plates can dislodge from the handle during use, posing an impact hazard. Stop using these weights immediately and contact BowFlex or Costco for next steps.
Tires: Safety Compliance Issues
Two tire models sold at Costco have been recalled for failing to meet federal marking requirements. The affected models are Bridgestone Blizzak 6 tires and Michelin Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric tires. If you purchased these tires, reach out to your local warehouse or the manufacturer to arrange for a replacement or a refund.
More Household and Seasonal Items Also Recalled
In addition to the items above, Costco’s recall includes a range of other products that may be in your home or garage, such as Topo Chico Mineral Water, Igloo coolers, Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker + Air Fryer, Kirkland Signature Severe Cold & Flu items, and Sublue Underwater Scooter.
What to Do Next
If you think you may have purchased any of the recalled items, here’s what you should do:
- Check your receipts and product labels: Review purchase records or check product serial/model numbers against the recall information.
- Stop using the item immediately: This is especially important for items like the air conditioners, power banks, and dumbbells, which pose more immediate safety risks.
- Contact the manufacturer or Costco: Each product has a different process for repair, replacement, or refund. Visit Costco’s website or call their customer service line to get specific instructions.
Why It’s Important to Act Quickly
Recalls are issued to protect you and your household from harm. Even if you haven’t experienced any problems yet, continued use of a defective product could put you at risk. Taking care of these recalls promptly also makes it easier to get the best remedy possible, whether that’s a free repair, a full refund, or a replacement unit.
