A popular brand of water bottles have blinded two people.
It’s the “Ozark Trail 64 Ounce Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles” that Wal-Mart was selling. And yes, they’re recalling them after finding out that the lid can “forcefully eject”.
My first thought was that maybe the lid kind of explodes off the top if the bottle is filled with too much of a carbonated drink and/ or somehow heated up. But they say that this has happened after the bottles have been used to hold food, juice, milk, and other stuff over time. Although, there’s a lot of stuff that will ferment, release gas, and create pressure if left in any tightly sealed container. So, if you have one, take it back for a refund or toss it. As I mentioned, several people have been hit in the face. Two have permanent vision loss from it.
The bottles being recalled can also be identified by their model number, 83-662 — which doesn’t appear on the product itself, but would show on packaging. The stainless-steel base is silver and the lid is a black, one-piece screw cap. There is also an Ozark Trail logo embedded on the side of the 64-ounce bottle.
