I was startled awake just before midnight last night. The house literally shook, which it does when there’s big thunder. Like a rabbit, Jenny hopped out of bed and was looking out the window saying, “A tree fell on our house”.
Actually, it’s about half a tree, the biggest branch off one of the neighbor’s tree. In fact, we’d just talked about having it trimmed a couple weeks ago. An independent tree guy said he wanted $1,000 just for that branch.
I don’t know if the roof is damaged yet, but our deck is.
Here’s the irony. Tree Guy wanted a thousand for that branch. My first thought when I looked outside was, “Well, now I won’t have to pay a thousand bucks for it.” Then we reviewed our home insurance deductible. It’s $1,000.
By the way, Tree Guy wanted $8,000 for the whole tree. He said if the branch goes, it’ll offset the weight of the tree and it’ll fall. At least it’ll fall in the other direction. Not that I want anything to happen to my neighbor’s house. But it’s be nice if it stayed in their yard and not on my house.
