A doctor’s note isn’t good enough to be excused anymore in a Tennessee school district.

That’s right, either you show them that you’ve lost an arm in a bear attack or it’s detention time!

I made the bear thing up, but seriously, the Lawrence County School District’s new rules state that special arrangements have to be made with the principal. In essence, you have to fill that person in on your kid’s medical history and then….. you know, maybe it’s okay to miss.

On top of that, if  child misses 8 times, both the kid and parents will be sent to truancy court. 12 days missed gets them kicked out of school.

I’ve read their actual policy sheet. It does make several special allowances. You know, the usual school kid stuff like having to go to court and military deployment. That’s not a joke. Those are listed. Otherwise, strep throat and measles won’t seem to cut it anymore. The good news is that Target is offering 30% off all children’s back to school biohazard suits…….. so, there’s that.

Here is the link to the official policy sheet they sent out.
