Tree tried to burn my house down during the storm.

Half a tree fell and tried to smash my house last month. The deck caught it and saved us.

Saturday morning, a different tree tried to burn our house down.  A loud noise woke us up at 4:30 as the winds were blowing 90 miles per hour. I got 10 steps towards the front door when Jenny yelled, “A tree’s on fire!”.

Another giant limb, from a tree on the other side of the house, barely still attached to the tree, was bouncing on the electrical wires. Each time it touched, flames, sparks, and embers flew off and towards our and our neighbor’s houses. That was a total blast watching and worrying until the wire finally snapped at 5:15………… which cut the power to the entire neighborhood until Saturday night. That redish light in the vid is the tree catching fire. The rain helped keep it out.

We didn’t have as bad as a neighbor’s brother. A tree fell on his house. A limb stabbed through the roof and stopped just a couple feet above his 3 year old daughter’s bed. Another broke through and buried itself into the wall.

Trees and limbs were blocking several sections of our streets. We live in a great neighborhood though. Starting about 5:30, a bunch of us got together and cleared a few blocks up by 7am. Big shout out to Nancy who brought us popsicles. She’s done that a couple of times we’ve gone through this.

That limb is still dangling off the tree. Here you can see the LES workers fixing the electrical lines, but they also kept forgetting they were standing under the limb even after we reminded them.

Thank you for their hard work to help everyone get through it all!
