The Cambridge Dictionary has added 6,000 new words to their English language dictionary. And I’m starting to think that they’ll just throw anything in there, sort of like Netflix when it first started streaming.
Ever heard “Skibidi”? Me either. Cambridge says it’s a popular word that means basically nothing. Also, it came from a YouTube series. I would have thought it came from 1930s scat jazz. You know, Skibidi do bop- diddy bop!
Then there’s “Tradwife” which means traditional wife. That word is just lazy. It’s not even considered a contraction.
Here’s one of my favorite new phrases they added to the dictionary, “Mouse Jiggler”. Any takers on that? Anyone? It’s a piece of equipment or software that makes it seem like you’re working when you’re not.
A spokesman for the Cambridge Dictionary said that they only add words that they think will have staying power. Riiiight. 6,000 new words that will all have staying power. Although “Skibidi” is kind of growing on me.
