Taylor Stanberry may stand just 4 feet, 11 inches tall, but her impact on Florida’s python problem is anything but small. This Naples native just made history as the first woman to win the Florida Python Challenge, and she did it with grit, skill, and a deep love for wildlife.
During the 10-day competition, Taylor captured an impressive 60 Burmese pythons, earning her the $10,000 grand prize. Her largest catch during the challenge measured between 9.5 and 10 feet long. Just before the competition began, she also caught a 12-foot python, although it did not count toward her total. Some reports even claimed she had caught one over 15 feet!
Taylor’s success is no flash in the pan. She has been hunting pythons for over a decade and works as a python contractor with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Her approach is methodical and informed by years of experience. She emphasizes the importance of understanding python habitats and being willing to put in long hours, even when the results are unpredictable.
Outside of python hunting, Taylor works at a canine physical therapy rehab center and runs a small exotic animal rescue. Her passion for animals started early, catching toads with her dad as a child.
Today, she travels the world photographing and filming snakes, sharing her adventures with a growing online audience. Her social media presence includes nearly 69,000 followers on Instagram and over 227,000 subscribers on YouTube, where she posts under the name @taylor2short.
Taylor plans to use her prize money to expand enclosures for her rescued animals and to support future python hunts. She is a powerful reminder that determination and passion can overcome any obstacle, including those that are twice your size.
