Ryobi Pressure Washer Recall: What You Need to Know
We mentioned this story earlier on the morning show, and I promised we’d post the details. Ryobi has recalled nearly 800,000 electric pressure washers due to a serious safety issue that has already caused dozens of injuries.
The Problem
The recall affects two models: RY142300 and RY142711VNM. These units contain a capacitor that can overheat and explode, sending parts flying and potentially causing serious harm. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been 135 overheating reports, 41 explosions, and 32 injuries, including broken bones and facial trauma.
Where and When They Were Sold
These pressure washers were sold between July 2017 and June 2024 at major retailers including Home Depot, Direct Tools Factory Outlet, and various online stores. Prices ranged from $300 to $400.
What You Should Do
If you own one of the affected models, stop using it immediately. Ryobi is offering a free repair kit that includes a replacement capacitor. You can check your model and request the kit through Ryobi’s official recall website.
